    Festival 2010

Thank you to everyone who came along to Deddington Rocks on the 11 June 2010. We had a fabulous (and warm) evening and NO RAIN! A spectacular line up, including Indigo Child, The Skyny Nyrds, The Blue Meanies and Abba Magic, a nationally successful Abba tribute band, ensured the audience went home buzzing. We were delighted to see that people of all ages enjoyed the open air concert. See our group on facebook for photos and more.

The Community Concert took place on the 17 June. Elsa Williams wrote and produced the concert, which was a celebration of Deddington's role in World War II - the evacuees, the Land Girls, Dad's Army, Vera Lynn and the Andrews Sisters! Thanks to both Elsa and Wendy Burrows, who helped Elsa with this popular event.

Thank you to everyone who participated and attended. A special thanks also to all those residents of Deddington (past and present) who contributed to the extremely interesting and moving exhibit of war time ration books, diaries, medals, newspapers and magazines and more. Thanks to those who shared either their own stories and memories of the war or those of their courageous relatives who served at home and overseas.

Carmina Burana: The 'come and sing' performance of Carmina Burana took place place in Deddington Church on 19 June and was directed by Martin Quinn. Local choirs and singers joined us and there were workshops in the morning and evening, followed by a performance in the evening with professional soloists and instrumental ensemble. Thanks to all performers who contributed to what was a most enjoyable and professional concert.

During 35 years-plus as a travel writer, Sylvie Nickels visited the former Yugoslavia almost annually; she was greatly distressed by its break-up. Its story and the effects on future generations are similar to the story of the effects of war anywhere. This trilogy covers the experience of these effects arising from several wars and across the generations. Sylvie's husband is a photographer, lecturer and former adventurer. Currently Sylvie gives talks and is working on a new book.
